When walking onto the field where the New York Red Bulls have their practices, I felt bad for the players because they were out practicing in the heat on a day that was 83 degrees but felt like 183. But they seemed to be having the time of their lives. While doing their warm-ups, they were yelling and laughing like it was recess at an elementary school. As they practiced their free kicks and corner kicks, I tried to think of the perfect interview questions to ask the players, and then I realized. We're in the middle of the World Cup, the most popular soccer event that only happens once every four years! And the player we were interviewing was from South Africa! When asked how he felt about the World Cup being in his home country, defender/midfielder Danleigh Borman (#11) said, "It's really great for the country and the people. There's has been so many issues in the country recently such as the apartheid. It's just unbelievable." Speaking of the World Cup, when asked who there predictions are for Sunday, every player and coach said, with a frank certainty, "Spain." Plain and simple. With a very wide range of diversity and age difference, one may think that it is difficult to get along with the other players. There are players from Ghana, Colombia, South Africa, Estonia, and even some country called Georgia. The youngest player is 17 and the oldest is 34. Borman, however, disproves that theory. "Juan Agudelo, the 17 year old, is a great kid and a great player, so no. It's not difficult to connect," explains Borman. So, overall, the Red Bulls are a pretty diverse team with a lot of good chemistry. I say good luck to them in all of their conquests and making it to first place.
